Friday, January 14th we will celebrate Black Excellence Day.
Black Excellence Day is a new initiative in B.C. which emerged from the Black Shirt Day movement. It is a day to acknowledge the ongoing civil rights struggle of Black and racialized Canadians. It is a day where we highlight the importance of including Black History as a part of our curriculum. Black Excellence Day rejoices Black history as we learn about the stories, art, and the many accomplishments of Black people, particularly Black Canadians that have contributed to our country’s story. This special day is a lead up to Black History Month, which takes place in February.
Please join the school by wearing a black shirt on Friday. May we continue to learn the stories from the past and present. May we continue to build a world that is inclusive and accepting of all races and cultures.
